Miter Knitting Masterclass 2017 with Michael del Vecchio (classes by appointment; contact us to schedule sessions).

Last year, guest instructor Michael del Vecchio brought the magic of Jane Slicer-Smith's designs to White Stone for the first time, and we had a half dozen intrepid knitters attempt shawls, home decor, and garments - with great success. This year, Miters are back - and better than ever! Following up on last year's class, we'll bring a collection of Jane Slicer-Smith's garments to the shop for you to try on and sample. In the classroom, we'll talk about color palettes and planning your garment - then learn the nuts and bolts of basic (and not so basic) miters, methods for picking up stitches cleanly and neatly, and creating shape in garments by adjusting miter size and shape. We'll go on to deconstruct and fully review some of Jane's patterns and her assembly diagrams and give you all the tools to complete your garment on your own.  Preregistration required.  $95 tuition plus materials.  Don't miss this miter class!

Skill Level:
  Advanced beginner/intermediate.

Bottom-up and top-down knitted sweaters are great for ease of finishing and bespoke fit.  Additionally, the bottom-up method allows for extra details like pockets and hoods.  In this 6-hour sweater workshop with Michael del Vecchio, we'll go through the ins and outs of the class pattern, starting with a thorough review of gauge and its many uses (and requirements), and moving on to talk shaping, pocket linings, and hood construction, and more.  As always, you'll get the great hand-outs that make interpreting the pattern and completing this garment a breeze.  Preregistration required.  $95 tuition plus materials.  Contact us to schedule group sessions.

Skill Level:
Adventurous Beginner. You can cast-on, knit, purl, bind off, and make simple increases and decreases.

Materials Required:
Worsted weight yarn to be purchased at Dirt Woman Fiber Arts, appropriate sized needles, and your notions kit. Suggested yarns are The Fibre Company Cumbria Worsted, Acadia or Canopy Worsted or Shalimar Yarns Enzo Aran or Fyberspates Vivacious DK.

Homework:
Bring to class at least one 6" x 6" stockinette stitch swatch (no garter borders) in your sweater yarn that achieves a gauge of 4.5 sts x 7 rows per inch.  Not sure how to achieve gauge?  Bring to class at least one 6" x 6" stockinette stitch swatch (no garter borders) worked on a US size 7 (4.5 mm) needle - and if possible, swatches worked on a US Size 6 (4 mm) needle.  Working on your gauge swatches during class is an option, but we want to make the most of our time together!
