Why do you use glass containers?
We use glass containers because we think they preserve product quality better than synthetics. Faceted glass containers are pleasing to the hand and eye. When you've finished using our product, you will have a durable and attractive container to reuse for other items.
What is the seal on the container lid?
We apply an anti-tamper seal to the container lid to ensure product integrity. If the seal is missing or broken, the container has been opened since we packaged the product.
Do you package by weight or volume?
We package by net weight. The densities of salts, herbs, and teas vary considerably. We select our package fill weights to provide a full container, notwithstanding normal variations in product density and settling.
What is the shelf life of your products?
Generally speaking, the shelf life of our products is two-to-three years if stored in a cool, dry, and dark place. Flavor intensity tends to diminish with time. The more frequently the container is opened and the longer it is left open, the shorter the shelf life. Use only clean utensils to remove product from the jar.
Are there anti-caking additives in your salts?
No, there are no anti-caking additives in our salts. Salt naturally attracts moisture. Finely grained and smoked salts will cake when exposed to moisture. Each time you open the container, moisture (atmospheric humidity) enters the container. The more frequently the container is opened, the longer it is left open, and the more humid the atmosphere, the sooner salt will begin to cake. We package our salts in a humidity-controlled environment. Though the containers are sealed when packaged, over time they may begin to assimilate moisture and begin caking. To break up caking, shake the container vigorously (with the lid firmly sealed), or use a clean teaspoon.
What diets are your products suitable for?
Our products are suitable for meat-eating, vegetarian, vegan, and lactose/gluten free diets. They contain no preservatives, sweeteners, or artificial liquid smoke.
Do you add potassium iodide to your salts?
Out of respect for the incidence of hypo- and hyperthyroidism in our population, we do not add potassium iodide to our sea salts. Iodine, an essential nutrient, is present in many foods, and available as a dietary supplement.
I am on a salt-restricted diet for hypertension. Do you offer salt-free products?
The Herbes de Bubba (not Herbes de Bubba Salt Rub) is salt-free.
